The question if there has been a historical basis for the figure of the legendary king Arthur remains contested. Nevertheless plenty of tales and sagas around him and his knights of the round table were created in the middle ages and turned almost into a European (rather than an exclusively English) genre of literature. The frequency of modern interpretations, novels, movies and scientific papers based on the sagas of King Arthur go to show how-up to-date and timeless many elements of these sagas are. At the same time, they often allow for a glimpse on many aspects of the middle age’s view of the world.
