In more than 900 years since its first construction by the Norman conquerors the Tower of London has often been a central stage of English history. As a residence of kings, as a refuge fort, as a prison and place of execution for prominent prisoners, as a treasury and mint to name just some of the Tower’s functions it has been involved with the current events of the time throughout the centuries. In modern day Great Britain it may not be the stage of grand politics anymore but it remains one of the most popular tourist attractions in the United Kingdom, demonstrating its continuing symbolic meaning.
